Jackie Newns, Provincial Assistant for Communications

Jackie supports the Province by leading the Handmaids Communications Commission, serving on the Advisory Board and working as a Spiritual Director and Director of Communications at our St. Raphaela Center. Jackie began her work part-time with the Handmaids in 2021 and in June 2023 transitioned to a full-time role.

The Handmaids help me feel connected to the Holy Spirit’s movements — aware that our God is a God of Transformation. We are called to be people of response who creatively await invitation and seek encounter. The Handmaids model discernment as a WAY of BEING, not a tool that is dusted off when faced with big decisions. Being in relationship with the Handmaids brings me joy, grounds me, stretches me and uplifts my gifts.

She is an adjunct faculty  member of the graduate school of  Organization and Leadership Development at the Haub School of Business at Saint Joseph’s University. Mia Holman, Provincial Assistant for the Healthcare Commission

Mia Holman received her MSN from Villanova University in 2004, and has worked as a Nurse Practitioner in the Internal Medicine Department at Penn Medicine at Radnor since 2006. Additionally, she volunteered at Community Volunteers in Medicine from 2005 until 2019. Mia came to know the Handmaids when she and her daughter participated, with their parish of St. Thomas of Villanova, in a mission trip to El Salvador. Subsequently, she went on several retreats at St. Raphaela Center, and became friends with some of the Handmaids. Mia became an Associate of the Handmaids in 2024. She now serves in helping the Handmaids navigate their healthcare.

“It is a joy for me to combine my love for the Handmaids and my medical knowledge in serving as a liaison between the sisters and the (sometimes daunting) healthcare system. The sisters are always so appreciative of my help, whether I make a doctor’s appointment for them, accompany them to appointments, or help them interpret medical tests; but I get as much out of the interactions as they do!”
