          With deep sadness, the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus announce the passing of Sister Mary Ann Craig, a member of the Handmaid community for more than fifty years, on August 25, 2018.  She was 79 years of age.  Sister Mary Ann was born in Phila., PA and was from St. Agatha’s parish. Remembering Sister Dorothy Beck

Sister Dorothy Beck, a native and very proud Philadelphian, was born to Ernest and Dorothy Beck, the eldest of five children. She was followed by three brothers: Ernie, James, John, and a sister, Miriam. She happily attended Most Blessed Sacrament Grade School and West Philadelphia Catholic High School, the latter awarding her with the distinction of entrance into the Alumni Hall of Fame. Welcoming Home – Answering the Call

Answering the plight of the victims caught in the tangles of human migration, a real flurry of activity took place on January 31st, 2018, as the Handmaids put the final touches on the new home of the Ramirez family. The main order of business that day for the Handmaids was to clean and put the kitchen in order. Organizing the pantry, closets, and bathroom was also on the “to do” list, while the tasks of painting, vacuuming, hanging curtains, and moving trash were being handled by additional volunteers. Sr. Margaret Scott, acj was recently named the Secretary/Treasurer for the Executive Committee of UNANIMA International, an NGO at the United Nations, based in New York. UNANIMA is an organization made up of 22 congregations of Roman Catholic Sisters. These sisters work in approximately 80 different countries and they advocate on behalf of women and children living in poverty, immigrants and refugees, and the environment. The sisters bring their constituents’ voices and concerns to the United Nations.
