Vocations with the Handmaids of the
Sacred Heart of Jesus

Welcome to the Vocations Web of the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Here's a little orientation.

Look at the upper left hand corner of the browser window. You'll see our seal, which features the heart of Jesus, aflame with love for us. That compassionate, loving Heart is the driving force in our life. Could that Heart be reaching out for you, too? At right, then-postulant Theresa and postulants Jessica & Uyen-Chi seem to be asking, "God, what is Your desire for me in this world?"

Now take a glance at the upper part of the screen, where our name is displayed. Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We're Handmaids because we emulate the total "yes" of Mary, who said, "behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord." And how do we see the Lord? There are many images or concepts of God which we could cherish and hold, but the one which captures our attention is the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Note too the words in white: United States Province. We are one of many Handmaid provinces around the world. We love being part of an international family!

Finally, look along the left side of the page. You'll see several options for browsing in the Vocations Web. "Vocations Home" is this page, your starting point. Click here "Discernment Retreat" will take you to a page providing information about upcoming retreats that are focused on discerning whether or not God is calling you to be a Handmaid. "Sisters' Stories" gives real-life discernment examples -- how God called women to be Handmaids.

"Incorporation" gives the details of the formation timetable. What happens first when you think God is calling you to be a Handmaid? How does someone become a Sister? At left, Sr. Theresa shares her journey with us during her novitiate entrance ceremony.

"Vocation Quiz" is a lighthearted way to see if your spirituality meshes with ours. The "FAQ" area includes frequently asked questions about religious life with us.

If you click "Charism", you'll find out more about our charism, our specific gift and call from God to build up the Church. In "Contact Us", you can fill out a form for more information or to ask a question. Finally, "Convent Files" takes you to our main site, where a Handmaid novice has a blog on formation, prayer, and convent life... so you can get a peek at what it's like to become a Handmaid.
